What is the Health Levy

istock-000005198811xsmallWas looking at the budget results there to see how much money I would have taken from my wages. Turns out that it’s quite a lot. Around €30 a week as far as I can figure out. Due to the doubling of the income levy and the health levy. That’s over €1,500 a year! But to be honest I am not sure. I tried to look at my P60 and figure out where all the money was going. Does anybody know what the hell a tax credit is? In fairness they could make it easier to understand. Perhaps I am wrong. Surely it can’t be that bad?

I know there is this calculator which should make it easier but I can’t figure it out. Also I had no idea what this Health Levy that they’ve doubled was. But I found a good article here that explains it. Appartenlty it’s to pay all the admins and Managers in the Health Service.
