Back Playing Hurling

October 23rd, 2007 Leave a comment Go to comments

Started back hurling training again last week. Really enjoyed it. Not a bad as I used to be I think, perhaps it’s because I have contact lenses now. Playing hurling with glasses underneath the helmet is definitely a drawback.

Not sure what position I’d like to play yet. Probably Right Corner Forward.

Congrats dude but If you are going to play Junior Hurling you might want to think about making sure that your tetanus jabs are up to date. :)

:D Yeah I should probably invest in a pair of shin guards (and a helmet!). Helmets are fecking €80 now!

Seriously though remember to use ‘daily disposable’ contacts when on the pitch otherwise it gets expensive PDQ all it takes is a good shoulder to lose one. I know a couple of the lads down the club keep disposable contacts in the coin pouch of their speedos when playing (they cut them out of the blister pack). It works out at about a euro a pair. I’m still hurting over the beating Sarsfields gave us in the 7s this year.
Great pic btw Oh and if you do buy a helmet remember to kick it round the carpark for a few laps to give it that worn look otherwise those sissy pads will give you away. Experienced JuniorC players can smell fear it helps make up for their lack of fitness ;)

Good tip but I find the disposable one fall out a lot easier than the 2 weekly ones I usually wear. But to be fair I haven’t got many shoulders recently! Apart from the girlfriend but sure I kinda enjoyed that.
I’ll probably continue wearing the 2 week ones but have a few disposable ones lying around just in case.
And thanks for the tip about belting it around the carpark a few times. Although I think I have a Cooper helmet lying around at home somewhere. I’d get a lot of respect wearing one of those. Old Skool!
What I really need to look out for is Brimur (of teoti fame) though. He’s starting back next week as well. Same club!

link:www.thesraid.com Y’up there he is (small world) or Catch him over at noobsters. If he still posts?
Speedo’s are easier to wash than a strap or a box. You dont want your bits slapping off your thigh. It stops being fun after a couple of laps.

Nice one. you realise that’s not me right?

Ah yes stones. Well back in the 1800′s when people still used stones I’d be considered to be 11 stones. So if I lost 5 stones I’d be 6 stones or around 40kg. A little light for hurling I’d say don’t you think?

  1. No trackbacks yet.
