I applied for the Garda Reserve five times and failed all five. I have lucky interview number six coming up soon. If I knew before applying that you had to be a former F.B.A. and C.I.A. agent with a degree in Irish law, I probably would’nt have bothered. Tip for anyone applying…………….It does’nt matter if your a former MI6 agent with a black belt, All they want to hear in the interview is that you spend your spare time helping old ladies to cross the street and you donate to charity. Good Luck.
I’m curious about the motives of many people joining the Garda Reserve. Its a lame excuse firstly for the government not having to spned more on policing i hink everybosy here will agree. But at the end of the day its a joke!
I hear people telling me that they’re joining to “help the my community”. Fact: reservists are never stationed in their own community. They have almost zero powers, and when “on duty” MUST be accompanied be a full time member of the Garda.
To James Bond: I dont know you but would suspect that you’re a power hungry individual who loves the uniform idea. You failed the test 5 times for the reserve. Do something productive instead like a normal person, volunteer in your local simon community etc, or if you really want some sort of mickey mouse power-surge consider the Army reserve.
In the meantime I hope the garda reserve is disbanded, 90% of gardaí sacked (the corrupt country stereotpyetype).
Sean,
Two of the four Reserve Gardai stationed in my home town are from the town itself. In the next town, the sole Reserve Garda there is also working in his own community.

how are things with you? new to the site the you find out bout how to go about the garda?
Hi Guys,
this post was meant as a joke but it looks like it’s pretty high up in Google so a lot of people are ending up here. If you really want to join the Garda Reserve there is a file you can download that explains all about it. You can download the file here.
Basically what is says is that you will have to apply on-line at publicjobs.ie.
Hi all, I am a Garda reserve and I have a message for you all. Firstly, ARHONDA BEND its you who will never be a Garda with that attitude. Judging someone before you know them. Secondly, JAMES BOND you are actually right. I have over 15 years law enforcement experience but the Garda reserve didnt care one bit about any of it. All they care about is what voluntary work I had done within my community. Stick with it, you will get in. SEAN, I tell you exactly the same as I told Arhonda Bend above. Judging people you dont even know is a sure way of making sure you never get the guards or if you do get in you will be an awful Garda. To ALAN IGOE, This site is about the Garda reserve not just for people who want to get in or are in favour of it. Best of luck to you all.
While I don’t believe Sean’s point about JB being ‘power hungry’, I do feel strongly that JB’s comment regarding ‘helping old ladies cross the street and donating to charity’ displays that he doesn’t have much regard for voluntary work in the community. He’s already said that if he knew what it involved he wouldn’t have bothered…..so, why *is* he bothering?
I could’nt be more wrong? Thats rich coming from a Garda reserve wannabe. Think about it, I got the Garda reserve and I agree with JB so maybe you need to re-think your strategy. JB did all the voluntary stuff, thats what he was trying to say but none of you could read between the lines. He (and I) just had no idea so much of the interview would hinge on things like that. You could be the best volunteer in your local community but unless you have law enforcement experience you will be useless in a riot and may even get yourself seriously hurt so just like JB said, you would think that along with helping in your community there would be a certain level of law enforcement experience required…………………………………….Think about it.
Thanks, I thought so. Good luck with all future applications and maybe one day if you listen to other people and read between the lines, you could be where I am today.

To James Bond,
With that attitude it’s no wonder you failed the interview five times.

You couldn’t be more wrong Stacey.

I’m surprised you got into the Reserves at all Stacey with the assumptions you make.
Be suprised all you want. I’m in and your not ha ha.
Yes. So you’ve ‘assumed’ Stacy. And what an ‘adult’ response from you, I must say.
For your information:
Assumption: The act of taking for granted or ‘supposing’.
Thanks, I thought so. Good luck with all future applications and maybe one day if you listen to other people and read between the lines, you could be where I am today.
